This is one of the simplest types of sedation to administer and works by prescribing anti-anxiety medication that the patient takes about an hour before their appointment. You will need someone to drive you to and from the practice because the medication will make you feel very drowsy. The medication will provide relief from anxiety and make you feel very relaxed.
Sedation with nitrous oxide is a convenient and fast option for helping patients feel relaxed throughout treatment. You will inhale a colorless and odorless gas for a few minutes and start to feel a tingling effect all over your body. Some patients report feeling euphoric as the gas is increased. We control the depth of sedation minute by minute and you will return to normal once the gas is stopped.
When we only need to numb certain areas of the mouth, Dr. Brown will inject local anesthesia around the teeth and gums to numb the treatment area. You will only feel the pinch of the needle and the anesthesia will wear off a few hours after treatment. Since you are not under sedation, you can drive yourself home after your visit.
